George Taylor

George Taylor was born in Ireland, about the year 1716. He came to America at an early age, and was employed at an iron-works in Pennsylvania. He soon became manager of the establishment, and afterward engaged in the business on his own account.

He was a member of the Provincial Assembly, and was appointed a justice of the peace. He was also a member of the Committee of Safety, and in 1776 was elected a delegate to the Continental Congress. He was present at the adoption of the Declaration of Independence, and affixed his signature to that instrument.

He continued in Congress until 1777, and was afterward engaged in public service in Pennsylvania. He was a man of strong mind and sound judgment, and was highly esteemed by his fellow-citizens.

He died February 23, 1781, in the sixty-fifth year of his age.
