John Penn

John Penn was born in Virginia, in the year 1741. He was educated in the common schools of his native State, and studied law. He removed to North Carolina, and entered upon the practice of his profession.

He took an active part in the resistance to the measures of the British government, and was elected a member of the Continental Congress. He signed the Declaration of Independence, and rendered important services in securing the adoption of that measure.

He continued in Congress until 1780, and was afterward elected a member of the Legislature of North Carolina. He discharged the duties of that office with great ability.

He died in the year 1788.
