Philip Livingston

Philip Livingston was born in Albany, New York, in the year 1716. He was educated at Yale College, and engaged in mercantile pursuits. He settled in New York City, and became one of the most influential merchants of that place.

He took an active part in the resistance to the measures of the British government, and was elected a member of the Provincial Congress of New York. He was chosen a delegate to the Continental Congress, and signed the Declaration of Independence.

He rendered important services in securing the adoption of that measure, and continued in Congress until his death, which occurred in the year 1778.
